We are proud to introduce you to our new professional - Kristina Vilkienė, who has joined METIDA Law firm of Reda Žaboliene lawyers’ team just this November. Mrs. Vilkienė advises clients on legal protection of intellectual property objects, including the fight against counterfeit goods.
Kristina Vilkienė has been working in a field of Intellectual property law since 2002. She started the professional career in the Appeals division of Lithuanian State Patent Bureau where she has been serving as Deputy Head of Department until October 2009. She acquired legal experience in reviewing disputes on legal protection of trade marks, designs and inventions, as well as the preparation of procedural documentation and representation before the courts. Kristina Vilkienė continuously improves the professional knowledge during training and conferences arranged by the World Intellectual Property Organization (Geneva), the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Alicante), the European Patent Office (Munich) and various foreign countries such as USA, Hungary, Romania national patent offices.

By the Resolution of October 7, 2009, the Government of Lithuania has approved the Rules of use of the Lithuania name in Internet domain names. The new Act provides that individuals have the right to register Internet domain names, which contains the Official long or short name of the State of Lithuania (Lithuanian Republic or Lithuania) only when the respective permit of the Lithuanian Communications Regulatory Authority is issued.

Attorney at law and patent attorney of METIDA Law Firm Ms. Inga Lukauskienė has participated at the AIPPI Baltic conference which took place on 2-4 September, 2009 in Tallinn, Estonia, and made the presentation on the topic „Trademark litigation in Lithuania – controversial decisions“.

Poetically entitled as "A Trade Mark Symphony”, event proceeded in a fascinating place - the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.

ECTA Annual Conference, organized since 1986 every year in another European country, is designated to the professionals operating with trademarks and intellectual property - attorneys at law, patent attorneys, lawyers, trade mark professionals. Event was attended by a total of over 600 participants from more than 60 countries.

The conference agenda included topics relevant to the opposition proceedings in the European Community, the United States and Canada, the main issues in areas of counterfeiting, Trade marks and Design rights. Also a distinguished panel of judges and lawyers presented EU case law and the judicial system.

Lawyer of our firm, Inga Lukauskienė, presented topic "Restrictions on Trademark rights: Public order, Morality, Bad faith". Moreover during the ECTA Board meeting Ms. Reda Zaboliene has been selected to represent Lithuania at ECTA Board.

Working ECTA conference agenda was added with a cultural program: the guests were introduced to Vilnius city, it’s neighborhood, as well as Lithuanian history, folk, classical and jazz music. At the time of final dinner the participants had the opportunity to listen to the National Symphony Orchestra led by maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius.

Starting as of the first of May 2009 the reduced prices for the registration of Community Trademarks take into effect. According to the new cost schedules issued by the OHIM the registration fee will be abolished, however the application fee will be raised a bit. As a result the average cost of the Community Trademark registration will be reduced about 700 Euros per application.
