European patent is a patent granted by the European Patent Office under procedure determined in the European Patent Convention. An Applicant gets European patent after filling one application of European patent which is examined in European Patent Office. In the application can be indicated, that the protection of patent is sought either in one/several or in all 34 member states of the European Patent Convention. That the European Patent may come into force, the translation of European patent or its part must be sent to the National Patent Offices of that member states where the grant of European patent is sought to become effective. That is usually involved with great expenses. Therefore due to the validation of the mentioned International Agreement, the costs of issuing the European patent are likely to be reduced, since in designated countries where the translation of entire description of European patent is required will be confined only to the translation of claims.
London Protocol has already become valid in 13 European countries. |
