New opportunities to register EU trademarks emerges from 1st of October
From this year, 1st of October, the owners of EU trademarks will have more space for self-expression since the requirement for graphic elements was revoked and it allows to register marks in any form, i.e. MP3 or MP4. In this way, non-traditional marks are being protected (holograms, sounds, moving marks etc.). It is important to draw attention that the image has to be clear, accurate, individual, readily available, understandable, durable and objective.
One more novelty – the certification marks will be registered as regular EU trademarks. These marks which symbolise that goods and services meet certain standards, will be the guarantee for specific characteristics. Moreover, owners of these marks will be allowed not to register collective trademarks anymore.
