Ruta Olmane has been engaging in intellectual property field since since 1999, when she started working as a lawyer for TRIA ROBIT, a patent agency in Latvia.  She also worked at Borenius Law Firm  and had her own private practice where she took on lawyer and attorney’s-at-law role offering services related to Latvian and European Trademarks or Designs. In 2014 Ruta started working at the Latvian office of METIDA Law Firm of Reda Zaboliene.

In her daily practice Ruta Olmane helps local and international clients with the protection and enforcement of intellectual property objects. She mainly deals with trademark filing, opposition and appeal cases before the Latvian Patent Office and  the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), licensing, cases regarding unlawful use of IP rights, detainment of counterfeit goods by Customs or Police, as well as litigates before all court instances.

In 2004 Ruta Olmane became a member of the Association of Patent Attorneys of Latvia. In 2006 she joined the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). Ruta represents the Republic of Latvia before the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA): in 2009 she became a member of the Council. In 2012 she was elected ECTA Second Vice President, in 2014  ECTA First Vice President. In 2016 Ruta Olmane was elected President of ECTA for 2016/2018.

Ruta has lectured in international conferences on intellectual property law and is an author of many articles published in local and international publications.
