On January 21, 2010, The Appeals division of Lithuanian State Patent Bureau has satisfied opposition No. 1649 of the interested person EL CORTE INGLES, S.A. regarding the refusal of protection of the International trademark “COAST” (Reg. No. 852427) in classes 18 and 25 owned by OASIS STORES LIMITED.

The Section of Appeals stated that the main element of the interested person’s trademark “Green Coast” which is written in original fount, is word COAST and it forms general impression of the trademark while word GREEN only describes it. Whereas the opposed trademark is compounded of only one verbal element COAST and it coincides with the main element of the interested person’s trademark it was stated that the opposed trademark is confusingly similar to earlier trademark “Green Coast”.
